Mild Winter Ahead for N.E.

Southern New England may expect another mild winter, Charles F. Brooks '12, professor of Meteorology, predicted yesterday.

Average temperatures in Boston during December, January, and February will be considerably above the winter normal of 30 degrees, according to Brooks. The same combination of November pressures and temperatures which has repeatedly led to mild New England winters in the past occurred again last month, he said.

Less cold air from the Arctic will come to New England, Brooks said, because of a unique combination of November pressures over the North Atlantic Ocean, and temperatures in eastern and central North America. He cited 14 instances including last fall, in the last 77 years, in which this phenomenon occurred.
