Bill Meigs '54, captain elect of the Crimson eleven, won a starting position on two 1954 All-East football teams last night. Both the Associated Press and the United Press selected him for their first teams.

Dick Clasby was the last Crimson football player to receive such an honor in his junior year.

Members of the Crimson team who received honorable mention from both the AP and the UP are:

Robert N. Cochran '55, end; J. Timothy Anderson '55, guard; Matthew W. Botsford, Jr. '57, back. The United Press also awarded honorable mention to tackle John T. Maher '56.

Both All-East teams were dominated by Army, with three Army players on the AP team, and four on the UP squad. Penn State ranked second in the AP squad with two members and tied Navy for second place on the UP first string, also with two. The other universities represented on the two teams are Boston University, Boston College, Colgate, and Princeton.

Melgs in Close Competition

This year's Associated Press first eleven is unusual since it contains only four seniors and five juniors. In previous years, AP teams were composed mostly of seniors.

The closest competition on the UP team was for the guard positions. Meigs was selected only after the UP board had considered Thorne Shugart of Yale and James Buonopane of Holy Cross.
