On the left, varsity basketball coach Floyd Wilson sets one up for his captain, Roger Bulger. Wilson, whose squad scrimmages M.I.T. today, has narrowed his varsity and J.V. teams to 8 men.
Most of the squad's practice sessions have been spent testing the capabilities of the individual players. "We're pretty well set now, but we'll have to see how it goes in our scrimmages," Wilson said.
Above, Jack Edwards, varsity freestyle, goes all out in a sprint start. The North Carolinian will be coach Hal Ulen's first man in the hundred this winter. Aside from ace backstroker Don Mulvey, all the team's stars will return.
The swimming team has been working out in the Blockhouse pool for the past two weeks, preparing for their first meet, Jan. 8, with Army, at West Point.
Dave Hawkins will also be back to help the team. He set University records in the individual medley, and the 100 and 200-yard breast stroke last season. Captain Jim Jorgensen, who broke Hawkins' 220-yard free style record, should also add to Ulen's chances for a successful season against all opponents, up to Yale.
