Leverett and Kirkland Tie In Straus Trophy Scoring

Leverett House, by placing third in the House cross country meet, moved into a first place tie with Kirkland as the fall Straus Trophy competition ended yesterday.

The Bunnies, paced by Otis Gates who finished fourth in the two mile run, scored 78 points in the meet. The third place team showing gave Leverett 30 Straus points, raising its total for the fall to 340.

Kirkland, which finished with the same number of Straus points, came in fifth in the cross country run, although the Deacon's Ed Carter took a second in the race behind Bill Warren of Eliot.

Warren, whose winning time was 10:39, along with his teammate Warren Little, who took a third in the race, led the Elephants to the cross country championship. As a result of the win, Eliot moved into fifth place ahead of Adams in the Straus standings, with a total of 260 points.

Although Adams' Bob Gilmer gained a fifth in the run, the Gold Coasters' team finished a disappointing seventh, and dropped to sixth place.

The Dunster team placed second in the cross country, and retained its solid hold on third place in the trophy competition, with a total of 317.5 points. The Funsters are 27.5 points ahead of fourth place Winthrop, which gained a sixth in cross country.

Although Lowell picked up 25 trophy points in the race, the Bellboys could not improve their seventh place Straus standing. Still in last position is Dudley, which came in eighth in the cross country event.
