William Marshall Meigs '56 of North Braddock, Pa., and Adams House yesterday was elected captain of the varsity football team for 1955 to succeed J. Timothy Anderson '55. Coach Lloyd Jordan said after the election, "The boys have made a wonderful choice."
Meigs, elected yesterday to the Ivy team, has been an outstanding offensive and defensive guard on the Crimson line for the past two years. In his freshman year he played first-string on the Yardling team which defeated Yale, 21 to 0, the last time the freshman Elis lost a game.
Captain of High School Eleven
As blocking back, he was captain of the Scott High School eleven in North Braddock, where, years before, Coach Jordan had done his first football coaching. Meigs' father missed by one year being coached by Jordan when he attended the same high school.
From his first days as a sophomore, Meigs has always been a regular starter on the varsity team and has only sat out one game for any length of time--against Brown, a week and a half ago.
