LINING THEM UP

Elis Aim for Ivy League Title

The last time Yale won the Ivy League football title was in 1946 when Howic Odell's Elis routed the Crimson, 27 to 14, to clinch the championship. It has been a long eight years since that time of the Blue, but today it can win the title again--if it can outplay the Crimson.

The Blue could have taken the championship last week by defeating Princeton, but the Elis fumbled the game away. So now, Yale with a 4-1 league record and a 5-2-1 over-all mark, has its last chance. If the Bulldogs lose, Cornell can tie for the championship by defeating Penn on Thanksgiving Day.

Jordan Olivar's team will attempt to win its 41st game this afternoon in the long series started in 1875. The Crimson has won 23 times, and seven games ended in ties.

Three weeks ago, the Elis would have been two touchdown favorites. Today, faced with numerous injuries to vital men, they are only a one-point favorite over the Crimson.

With his injury list staring him in the face, Olivar has decided on this tentative lineup for this afternoon:

In the line, where today's game will probably be decided, the Elis may have lost at least two valuable men, but they are still big--the biggest the Crimson has faced all year.

At the ends, Oliver will start with Roger Hanson, a 195-pound senior from Beliville, N.J., and substitute Byron Campbell, a 6-2 senior from Winnetka, III. Paul Lopata and Vorn Loucks, Olivar's excellent sophomores, are both injured, but may see action.

The tackles are the strongest spots on a strong line. The Crimson will have a tough job moving Phil Tarasovic, a huge 6-4, 205-pounder from Bridgeport, Conn., and Bob Gallaway, another giant at 6-1 and 211 pounds from While Plains, N.Y. The Blue will miss Tom Henderson, a valuable man on defense.

Backfield Injuries

Sophomore guard Mike Owseichik will be available for only limited duty, but the Elis will have their excellent Captain Thorne Shugart, a 215-pound senior from Los Angeles, and substitute John Phillips, a 195-pound senior from Scarsdale, N.Y. Jim Doughan, 205-pound senior from New Haven, will start at center.

If Yale has been hurt in the line, it has been almost devastated in the backfield. The Elis have lost their first two fullbacks,, Steve Ackerman and Conrad Corelli and their starting left halfback Jim Armstrong.

Two Good Passers

Olivar still has Phil Mathias, an experienced 195-pound senior from Reading, Pa., at fullback, but may have to use junior varsity men to replace him. At quarterback are two top players, senior Bob Brink from Manhasset, N.Y., and sophomore Dean Loucks from White Plains, N.Y. Both men are good passers.

The halfbacks are both good and both fast. Senior Jim Lopez, a hard-driving 167-pounder from Watertown, Mass., will open at left half, and sophomore Dennis McGill at right. McGill, from North Bergen, N.J., has been called by Olivar, "the greatest Yale runner since Levi Jackson." Sophomores Al Ward and Charlie Peet will be called upon for reserve duty.
