Unbeaten Varsity Harriers Defeat Big Green, 25-34

Al Wills, with a strong finishing kick, edged Dartmouth's Doug Brew at the finish line yesterday as he led the undefeated Crimson to a 25-34 victory over the Green at Franklin Park.

Achieving his first win of the season, Wills was timed in 20:24 with Brew one-tenth of a second behind in 20:25. The victory was the Crimson's fifth straight.

Right behind these two runners came Don French, number one for the varsity most of the season. French was clocked in 20:80. Dartmouth's Pete Jebsen and Bob Hogarty were fourth and fifth respectively.

The other men who placed for the Crimson were Dave McLean, sixth: Phil Williams seventh; and Paul Beck eighth. Bill Morris and Bob Holmes also crossed the line before the green's next runner.

On the basis of these five straight victories the varsity must be considered one of the stronger teams in the East. It will get its first championship test next week when it travels to New Haven for the Yale-Princeton meet. After that meet, the Heptagonals and IC4A championships follow on successive weeks.

The Yardlings, following the pace set by the varsity, defeated Dartmouth, 25 to 31. Art Reider, the freshman captain, was first in the time of 14:31. Other crimson runners in the first five included Dave Norris, third; and Ralph Perry, fourth.
