Cambridge may soon have a mayor, if current indications of a break in the City Council deadlock are correct.
Last night a member of the powerful four-councilman minority supported by the reform Cambridge Civic Association disclosed that the four were now "screening the other Council members to evaluate them." As of Monday, the day of the last meeting, the CCA men had been voting solely for each other.
Prior to last night, it had been rumored that the other five Independent councilmen had pledged not to vote for any CCA men.
When the City Council meets again tomorrow, it will have cast 115 ballots for mayor. No candidate has received more than two votes on the past 50 ballots. Monday, four men voted for themselves on every ballot.
