Bunnies May Oust Favored Dunster As champions in House Basketball

(This is the second of two articles discussing the House Basketball League. The teams discussed today are Dudley, Eliot, Leverett, and Lowell.)

Although Dunster remains a solid favorite to win both the "A" and "B" titles in the Intramural Basketball league, Leverett hopes to upset the predictions and take at least the A title.

After last night's action, the Bunnies and Funsters were tied for the A league lead with identical 5-1 records. Dunster trounced Winthrop 49-39 last night, while Leverett squeaked by Eliot 45-42.

The Bunnies have a well-rounded and experienced team. Leading the team are two juniors, Dan Mayers and Lee Hurd. Other starters are Paul Donovan, who scored 19 points in last night's game, Lou Mengoli, and Joe Hindman.

Leverett's only loss was to Lowell. But last night Kirkland handed Lowell its fourth loss, 56-42.

Lowell's balanced lineup, with Cliff Alexander, Roger Golde, Cal Gross, Chuck Cole, and Bob Parenti starting, should put the Bellboys in the upper division.

Dudley, with a 1-5 record, is definitely the weakest team in the league. The Dragons are plagued by their perennial problem: lack of interest. Yesterday, as Ike Scott scored 15 points for the Gold Coasters, Adams trounced the Dragons 46-39.

Eliot, with a 3-3 record, lacks tall men. A fast-breaking team, it is led by John Simmelmeyer, Lou Goetz, and coach Dan Steiner.

In the B league, Dunster's victory over Winthrop last night, giving the Funsters a 6-0 record, put them a full game ahead of Leverett. The Bunnies have now won five contests, but dropped one to the Funsters. The Bunnies' "B" team won over Eliot, 32-25 last night.

Coach Harry Sacks has an evenly-balanced squad and chooses his starters from a group of six men: Ed Sussenguth, Pete Briggs, Al Botter, Dave Sommer, Harley Shear, and Don Davidoff.

Eliot's B's have a 3-3 record, the same as their A team. Carleton Burtt leads the Elephants.

After losing last night's contest to Adams, Dudley's B team has a 2-4 record. The Dragons are led by Dave Korf and Harry Schoenig.

Lewell also has a 3-3 record with its improving team led by 6 foot 5 inch Bob Payne, Dave Toland, Lenny Levine, Dick Dolins, and Stan Loeb.
