Fort Wayne Suspends Ex-Lion Star Molinas

Jack Molinas, former star basketball player for Columbia, was indefinitely suspended from professional basketball yesterday, after he had admitted betting on his team, the Fort Wayne Pistons of the N.B.A.

He admitted in a signed statement that he had placed bets, but, he added, always on the Pistons to win. He denied shaving points to collect on his bets, and claimed to have made only $400 on his gambling.

A clause in N.B.A. contracts forbids gambling on any game in which the player is involved, and any infringement results in an automatic suspension.

Molinas, who was signed by the Pistons after his graduation last spring, had been drawing a salary of $9600 a year and had been selected to play on the West All-Star team in the annual All-Star game, which will be held next week at New York.
