Frederick B. Deknetal will become William Dorr Boardman Professor of Fine Arts as of July 1, Provost Buck announced last night. He replaces Wilhelm R. Koehler, who will be emeritus after that date.
Currently on leave of absence to do research in Europe, Deknetel is a professor of Fine Arts and has been a member of the University faculty since 1932. He was chairman of the Department of Fine Arts from 1944 to 1949 and president of the College Art Association in 1947-48.
Deknatel was awarded the Knight's Cross, First Class, of the Royal Order of St. Olaf by King Haakon of Norway in recognition of his preparation of the first book in English in the 20th century Norwegian artist, Edward Munch. Deknatel is an authority on medieval and modern art.
