"Too much pioty" is the protest of 15 Divinity School students, who have demanded a meeting of the School's Student Association to object to a proposal for greater "religious emphasis" among students.
Jacob F. Schulman 2Dv, president of the Association, had asked for more religious interest last Wednesday in his inaugural address. He proposed that the Association might open meetings with prayer and invite ministers of all denominations to speak their feelings concerning the ministry.
John M. Coffee 2Dv and Donald R. Stout 3Dv, who are leading the protesting group, have asked for a special meeting, which has been called for Friday.
George H. Williams, acting dean of the school, called Schulman's proposals a "good idea." He said Coffee was a "good fellow" and he "couldn't imagine why he would be protesting."
Schulman termed "unfounded" opinions of several students that the controversy would have an adverse effect on the Divinity School's fund raising campaign.
Both Schulman and Williams called the controversy a "healthy sign," showing that students are becoming interested in the association, which was organized two years ago.
