John Stokes '54, Chairman of the German Exchange Program, said Wednesday night that if the State Department does not advance enough funds to complement the University's part in the program the plan might fold.
The University is going to give seven remissions of tuition to German exchange students for the academic year '53-'54 on the basis of their standings in '52-'53. Each of the students who gets a remission of tuition will live in one of the seven upperclass Houses.
If the State Department does not advance the necessary funds to cover other expenses, however, the program will collapse. Although Stokes has said that there is a possibility of getting private financial backing, the possibility is not a good one.
