Crimson wrestlers, sided by three pins, scored an 18-16 victory over Columbia Saturday in New York.
The Lions scored first when Mike Gvardijian pinned Dick Adams at 5:50 in the 123 pound class. Gvardijian used a chicken-wing and half nelson.
Captain Johnny Leo gave the Crimson its first win by taking an 8-3 decision ever Ed Meloni in the 130.
Bud Adams produced the day's finest performance at 137, pulling the varsity ahead by pinning Leo Cirino with a cradle hold in 2:47.
Frank Dewar lost a 6-1 decision to Columbia's Dick Deetz in the 147, and the contest was tied.
In the 157 Hugh Chandler pinned Tom Christic at 8:23 with a bar arm and body press, but teammate Joe Hubbard lost a 5-0 decision to Columbia's Bob Sherry in the 167.
Ken Culbert assured the Crimson of victory with a 2:52 cradic pin over Sam Karavolls in the 177.
Although Columbia's Hank Littlefield pinned George Bates in the unlimited weight event, the Crimson's lead was insurmountable.
The wrestlers, with a 5-2-2 record, are favored to win Saturday's match against Yale.
