A total of 1,173 blood pledges, a record for the first day of any University blood drive, last night provided an suspicious start to the Phillips Brooks House spring blood campaign.
Highest totals among the House came from Lowell and Leverett with 135 and 83 pledges respectively, Alan I. W. Frank '54, co-chairman of the drive, announced. Radcliffe, with 142 pledges, far outdistanced its previous record of 78, set last year.
Almost every branch of the University increased its former record, said Frank, especially the Law School and Freshman Yard, which pledged a combined total of 412 pints.
The new record, Frank pointed out, was set without any report yet received from Winthrop or the University employees.
