A large number of Crimson trackmen will get their first opportunities to participate in a major meet when Coach Bill McCurdy takes his squad to Providence tonight for the annual New England AAU Track Championships at the Armory.

Entering the meet primarily for extra competitive experience, the team will be without the services of ailing sophomore hurdler Bob Rittenburg, who injured his leg in the BAA meet last Saturday night, and will be replaced by junior Jack Richards.

Charlie Arena, Ted Johnson, and freshman Norm Bruck will be entered in the dash. Johnson, an outstanding performer in last spring's intramural meet, makes his first start as a varsity trackman. Dave Alpers and Bob Morrison, two promising freshman middle distance men, go into the 600, while injured Yardling captain Al Wills may be in the mile if he can cure his cold.

Curran, Mello Win Titles

In the weight throw, broad jump, and pole vault end of the meet, held at M.I.T. yesterday, four Crimson entrants turned in fine performances. Bob Curran and Whitey Black placed 1-2 in the weight throw, while newly-wed Bob Mello took the pole vault at 12 foot 6 inches, with freshman Kip Smith a surprise fourth place tie at 11 foot 6 inches.
