B.C., Northeastern Tie, 2-2
Boston College, ranked as the East's top inter-collegiate hockey team, had to battle from behind to gain a 2-2 overtime tie with Northeastern last night in the opener of an Arena doubleheader.
Northeastern was unable to score during three previous games with Boston College but last night it inspired Ray Picard, its spectacular goalie, by scoring twice within 33 seconds during the first period, on goals by Dick Smith and Johnny Gilbody.
Picard, who had a total of 56 saves, was broken by Bob Sible at 16.44 in the second session and Billy Maguire deadlocked matters at 7:46 in the third, while Northeastern was shorthanded because of a penalty.
