Squash Team Thumps Princeton; Navy Stops Yale to Near Crown

Charlie Ufford and Dave Watts sparked the Crimson squash team to a 5 to 4 triumph at Princeton Saturday, but Navy virtually clinched the national crown by simultaneously trimming Yale, 6 to 3.

Navy pounded the visiting Crimson, 5 to 4, Friday.

Only by defeating Yale while the Middies suffer an unlikely loss to Army could the Crimson surge into a tie for the title. In this case, the championship would be determined on the basis of match scores.

Sonnabend Rallies

Ufford and Watts each posted easy triumphs in their Saturday matches. Ufford thumped Roger Campbell, and Watts defeated Pete Beneliel, both by 3 to 1 counts.

Steve Sonnabend duplicated his winning underdog effort against Navy, and captured the deciding match by a 3 to 2 count.

Sonnabend dropped his first game, evened the count by winning the second, and then fell behind with a 10-15 setback. He took the next two games, 15-14 and 13-5, to win the set and match.

Hadden Tomes won in five games, and Bill Wister broke back into the win column with a 3 to 1 triumph.
