Ten young virtuosos will compete for an opportunity to solo with the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra in the second annual concerto contest at 7 p.m. tonight in Paine Hall. Performers on six different instruments each play 12 minutes from the concerto of his choice.
Russell Stanger, conductor of the orchestra, Randall Thompson '20, head of the Music Department, and Archibald T. Davison '06, Ditson Professor of Music, will judge the constestants solely on their skill in performances of works from Mozart to Copeland.
One of the pianists, Ann Beser '55, will play a concerto written especially for her by M. Joel Mandelbaum '53.
