A $1,000 fine hangs heavy over an unknown Winthrop House thief. The U.S. government, Winthrop House Centry, and Senior Tutor Daniel Cheever are all after him.
His crime is stealing a 4 by 6 inch rectangular sheet of white metal marked "U.S. Mail Schedule." His punishment for "tampering with the mails" can be a $1,000 fine or three years in prison. His last theft--the thinrd in as many weeks--provoked Tutor Cheever to post a terse warning of "a severe punishment' for the offender.
"A serious matter," says Cheever. "If this sort of behavior continues, the boxes will have to be removed...."
