The varsity rifle team broke two University shooting records while beating Boston College 1406 to 1378 Saturday.
The riflemen broke their 1951 team score record of 1377 and evened their standing for this season after losing to Brown 1350 to 1373 in their opening match on Dec. 5.
Sophomore John Leness led the team, firing a total of 290 and setting a new Crimson standing record of 95. The previous record was 94, fired by James Smith in 1951. John Hessel, who was Harvard's third highest scorer, also came close to Smith's record, firing a 93 from standing position.
Captain Frank Sweet was close behind Leness in total points for the day with 285, one higher than Boston College's best score.
