Crimson runner, with little hope of placing better than fourth, travel to Van Courtland Park for the 15th Annual Heptagonals this afternoon. The meet opens at 3 p.m.
Cornell and Yale are favored contenders for first place in the ten-sided contest, with Navy an unknown and possibly threatening quantity. Cornell holds a slight edge, because of a close win over the Elis earlier this fall.
Army is expected to fight the Middles for third, with Penn, Columbia, Dartmouth, and the Crimson figured to battle for the remaining ratings.
But the Crimson still has a chance to dump the depositors. Pro-season speculation had the varsity among the Heptagonal favorites, but illness and injuries have hurt the runners' showing all season. Much will depend on the individual performance of Captain Hal Gerry, Hubie Maguire, and Emil San Soucie.
Individual Favorites
Individual favorites in the Hops this morning are Rosenbaum of Cornell, Duckworth and Cleary of Yale, Maltese of Penn, Clarkson of Dartmouth, Harper of Navy, Cory and Wray of Army, and Mills of Princeton, in addition to Gerry.
Last year's Heptagonal champion was Army, with the Crimson in fifth place. The Crimson placed second in 1948, and tied with Cornell for first in 1939.
