Unless contributions pick up rapidly, the Combined Charities may be forced to extend their campaign into next week. "We are definitely disappointed with the contributions to the drive," said Co-Chairman Robert C. Terry, Jr. '54 last night, and, he added, there isn't much hope for a large increase in the next few days.
Solicitors have already co it acted nearly two thirds of the student body, but are 20 percent short of last year's total. The Co-Chairmen attribute this deficiency in part to the new method of collection. No longer able to charge the Conations on their term bills, many students are simply failing to contribute. Although they can pledge their donations if they wish, few are taking advantage of this opportunity.
By last night the donations were $2,000 short of last year's gifts for an equal period.
Even if the drive is not officially extended, solicitors will continue with "clean-up visits to the houses next week. Terry admitted those are "hectic times" for everybody, but hoped that the response would quicken very soon.
