Supreme Court justices ruled yesterday that baseball is a sport and thereby saved the big leagues. The reserve clause, which prevents players moving from one club to another at will, was preserved.
Club owners had feared that the organized game, as it is now constituted, would be ruled a monopoly because of this clause, but without it, rich clubs would soon have all the best players.
