A favored Crimson cross-country squad seeks its second win of the season, against B.U. at Franklin Field this afternoon. The meet will open with the freshman races at 2:45 p.m.
Hal Gerry and Emil San Souci will lead Coach Bill McCurdy's team in what promises to be the Crimson's second victory. The Crimson's showing against Providence last weekend, coupled with a poor B.U. showing against Dartmouth, augure well for the harriers this afternoon.
Despite Crimson optimism, B.U.'s prospects are far from black. John Kelly, called by McCurdy "one of the top distance runners in the east," should take the individual honors for the Terriers today.
But Gerry will offer him stiff competition. Last weekend the Crimson distance runner and what McCurdy called "the best race of his career" against Providence, when he won in 20:40.0 Today's race should be close and interesting.
Terrier Freshman Strong
Habia Maguire and Al Wills will not run for the Crimson today. Their places will be taken by Marshall Childs and Jack Richards.
The B.U. freshmen promise to offer stiffer competition than the varsity. Pete Terry, a veteran running for the Terrier '57 squad, measures up favorably to most varsity runners. Still, with greater depth than B.U. and the services and Dave MacLane of Watertown, N.Y., and Billy Morris of Rochester, the Yardlings seem favored.
