On the House

Leverett took over first place in the House soccer league yesterday by downing Dudley 3 to 2. Dudley and Leverett had been tied for first place. In the other House soccer game, Eliot defeated Adams 3 to 1.

The Bunnies took a quick lead on a goal by Charley Webb in the first few minutes and held it for the rest of the game. A Bob Backner goal at the start of the second half increased Leverett's lead, but Dudley pulled back on Dave Margolis' goal after the kickoff.

Tod Goodwin put the game away for Leverett with minutes remaining. Dudley's Red Wilde kicking in a meaningless goal late in the game.

Eliot started with only eight men but scored first off Adams, Tod Herskovick kicking the goal. Ted Stoessinger tied the score for Adams against Eliot's full strength, but Dan Steiner scored on a sole with one minute left, to decide the contest.

Winthrop continued its high scoring in House touch football, defeating Kirkland 48 to 36 in a wild game. The Puritans (3-0) have averaged six touchdowns a game for three games, and have a half-game lead over second-place Dudley (2-0). Dudley will have a chance to pull even by winning its game with Eliot (1-0) this afternoon.

In freshman touch, Dudley went into first place in the National League, edging Hollis 12 to 11 in the most exciting Yard touch game this year. Trailing 11 to 0 at the half, the Commuters came from behind on touchdowns by Charley Bougopoulas and Jim Contis. Hollis' odd total came on a touchdown, an extra point and two safeties.

In other games, Massachusetts lost to Lionel 21 to 12; Weld North defeated Straus North 12 to 6; Weld South dropped Straus South 25 to 6. There were two forfeits: Thayer North to Matthews North, and 8 Thayer South to Matthews South.
