Under practically ideal conditions, the Crimson varsity sailors defeated Amherst, Yale, and M.I.T. yesterday afternoon at Tech.
Amherst fell easily, 2 to 0, but Yale and M.I.T. provided more opposition. The Elis lost, 2 to 1, while Tech was edged on points, 69 to 62, when darkness ended the meet with one victory for each school.
Yale and Tech both won their first races, but the Crimson skippers, John Newhall, Dave Robbins, and Tim Brown, all of Lowell, and Phil Tierney of Eliot rallied to win.
Takes Raven Meet
Brown replaced Hank Pahl of Lowell after the first Yale race.
Crews were: Bill Wharton of Lowell, John Reed of Leverett, A. C. Langworthy of Adams, Charles Bechhoofer and Ron Kaurich, both of Dunster.
Harvard also won the Raven Septagonals held at New London yesterday afternoon. The Crimson barely defeated the Coast Guard, 39 to 38, with Williams and Yale close behind. Sailing for Harvard were John Roosevelt, Nick Baker, Carter Brown and Fred Hoppin.
