3 Congressmen Plan College Investigations

The number of Congressmen planning investigations of alledged communist influence into the nation's colleges and universities jumped to three last week.

The first to announce an investigation was Representative Harold Velde (R-Ill.), the new chairman of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Last week, Senator Joseph R. McCarthy (R-Wis.) jumped in, saying he was "going to look into the educational system." McCarthy will be chairman of the Senate's Permanent Investigating Committee.

Finally, Senator Homer Ferguson (R-Mich.), chairman-to-be of the Internal Security Committee, indicated he too would question some educators as part of its general investigations into communist subversion.
