John H. Williams, Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy, had refused a post on Eisenhower's Board of Economic Advisors, it was learned last night.
Although Williams, contacted in Washington, declined to comment, a reliable source confirmed the report that the new President had offered him the post. Williams stated that he would be in Cambridge to teach his courses in the spring term.
Williams had had long experience in national economic problems. In the early thirties he represented the United States at a preparatory committee of the World Monetary Fund. He is currently economic advisor to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and was Dean of the Graduate School of Public Administration from 1937 to 1947.
