Bob Twitchell, the Crimson's ace sprinter and hurdler, will seek an Olympic berth in the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the trials in California next month.
Twitchell will be entered by the New England AAU following his performances in the AAU sponsored meet held Wednesday night at the M.I.T. track. He won the 100 and 220-yard dashes with times of 9.7 and 21.4 respectively, breaking both records. Because of a slight tailwind, however, he was not given credit for a record in the century.
During the year Twitchell was the Crimson's high scorer, compiling 121 points in four events--the 100 and 220-yard dashes, and high and low hurdles.
Other Crimson Places
In the meet the informal Harvard squad tallied 21 points. Dave Cairns took a third in the 3000 meter run, while Don Trimble, Bob Mello, and Dick Barwise took seconds in the javelin, pole vault, and high jump, respectively. Trimble, a 1950 graduate who holds the University javelin record, competed for the first time this year at the AAU meet. Phil Pratt and Bob Curran took fourths in the discus and hammer to round out the scoring.
