1st Regatta Weekend Begins Today; Dances, Bacchanalia Attract 2,000

Saturday Features Top Sports Events

Harvard's biggest splurge--the first Regatta Weekend in the College's history, a function comparable to Yald's Derby Day or Pennsylvania's Skimmer Day--will begin this afternoon and roll straight through till Sunday.

All-College weekends have been held here before, but this marks the first time in Harvard's history that all the Houses, and the Yard will stage simultaneous celebrations. Close to 2,000 people will participate in the varied and far-flung affairs of Friday night.

The highlight of the weekend will be the events of Saturday afternoon and evening. At 5 p.m., Navy, Pennsylvania and the Crimson crew will compete for the coveted Adams Cup. From 4 p.m. on, the Band will play, on the banks of the Charles.

And at 8 p.m., the Straw Hat Ball will begin at 39 Plympton Street, the I.A.B. Tommy Tucker and his orchestra will provide the entertainment, while the Bowdoin College Singing Group will perform at intermission.
