Annex Takes 273 For Class of '56; Smaller Than '55

Radcliffe's freshman class next year will be smaller than the Class of 1955, but there will be an increase in the number of resident students at the Annex next fall, Mrs. Van Courtlandt Elliott, Radcliffe's Dean of Admissions, announced yesterday.

Freshman acceptances for the Class of 1956 number 273 as compared to 275 members in the Class of 1955.

Annex admission applications this year exceeded "by a considerable number" those of any pervious year, Mrs. Elliott disclosed.

Holmes Hall, a new dormitory opening next fall, will provide additional housing space for commuters and allow the 'Cliffe to close two off-campus houses--20 Walker Street and 55 Garden Street. Seven hundred and fifty-seven students will live in College accommodations, an increase of 42 over this year.

Applicants for the Class of '56 came from 39 states, 16 foreign countries, and represent 538 secondary schools.
