Carol Channing, a big blonde actress with a twinkling sense of humor, completely captivated an audience of law students at a crowded coffee hour gathering yesterday at the Harkness Pavilion.
Miss Channing, creator of Lorelei Lee, gold-digging heroine of "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," spent a half hour expressing her opinions on musical comedies in general and hers, in particular.
"What would your character, Lorelei Lee, think about Harvard Law students?" asked one spectator.
"Well," said Miss Channing, drawing her reference from her hit song--"Diamonds Are a Girl's best friend,"--"she'd like students fine--as potential diamond suppliers. Until then, she'd to go for their fathers."
Asked whether she thought Lorelei a good or bad character, she said an actress should not think of her part as either good or bad.
Elaborating on her character's gold digging activities, Miss Channing remarked: "In Lorelei's era, before income taxes, there were loads of diamonds floating around. I think any girl who didn't latch on to some was a fool."
