"Asia today, more than any other part of the world, holds the key to the future peace of the world," Binay R. Sen, Indian Ambassador to the United States, told 200 listeners in the Business School's Baker Library last night.
Admitting that "the mind of Asia has always been an enigma to the West," he described India's constitution at work and her Five Year Plan in a speech entitled "Democracy at Work in India."
Sen emphasized that under her democratic constitution the Indian peasants (about 70 percent of the population) "who have largely remained voiceless in the past, will now be the main influence in the governance of the country."
The Five Year Plan entails a total outlay of 3,765 million dollars. Sen pointed out the necessity for the state keeping compulsion to a minmum in developing India's economy.
