HLU Seeks Student Choices For Presidential Candidates

Poll Lists Thirteen Primary Favorites

Republican and Democrat pre-convention hopefuls will face two successive tests next week. On Monday, they will battle it out in the H.L.U's University-wide poll; Tuesday sees the official state primaries for both parties.

Frank A. Rhuland '54, H.L.U. poll director, last night announced that ballets will be distributed in the Union, the seven Houses, Harkness Comons, and Cowie Hall at both lunch and dinner. Dudley commuters will also get a chance to plug their favorites at the noon meal.

Each student may check only one candidate. Republicans can choose from Senator Robert A. Taft, Harold B. Stassen, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, General Douglas MacArthur, and Governor Earl Warren.

Stevenson Included

Democrats have a slightly wider choice among Senator Estee Kefauver, Senator Robert S. Kerr, Vice-President Alben W. Barkley, Senator Richard B. Russell, Senator Brien McMahon, W. Averell Harriman, Governor G. Mennen Williams, and Governor Adlai E. Stevenson. Stevenson's name is included since the ballots were printed before he withdrew from the race.

Not included on the Democratic state is President Harry S. Truman, who has pulled himself out of the race.

Although all the acknowledged candidates are included, space is left at the bottom of the ballot for write-in votes.
