'55 Nine Beats Tufts, Loses to Brown, 15-8

The freshman baseball team drew even over the weekend, losing to Brown, 15 to 8, at Providence on Friday, and beating the Tufts freshmen, 12 to 4, Saturday afternoon on Soldiers Field.

Playing against Tufts before a large Jubilee crowd, the Yardlings took an early 3 to 2 lead and increased it with two big three run innings. Gar Cranney sparked a sixth inning Yardling rally when he singled with the bases loaded. Bill Chauncey pitched the complete game for his second win. He gave up only one run in the last five innings.

In the Brown game, the Crimson was leading, 3 to 2, when a combination of poor control by pitcher Andy Ward, sloppy fielding and some bloop hits accounted for an eight run Bruin inning and the game.
