'55 Tennis Team Rips Milton, 7-2; Doubles, 4 Singles Win Matches

Three strong doubles combinations paced the freshman tennis team to a 7 to 2 victory yesterday in the first match of the season against Milton. Because two of the six Yardling singles players were defeated, the outcome of the match was in doubt until the doubles teams won six straight sets.

Alex Haegler and Bob Crouch, playing first doubles won easily, 6-1, 6-3. Bill Wister and Mike Levinson at two also won. 6-3, 6-1, while Geoff Ball and Dan Mayers in the third position triumphed, 6-0, 6-3.

In singles, Haegler lost to Milton's number one man. Brooks Harris, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Ball, who was losing, 5-2, in the second set of his match, went on to win it and the next one, both 7-5, in the second singles spot. Wister and Levinson at three and four won their matches in straight sets.

Captain Roger Cortesi scored the other victory for Milton by beating Crouch in two sets. Mayers, playing number six, won his match easily.
