HLU Asks Ike's Stand On Political Questions

Members of the Executive Board of the Liberal Union yesterday asked Earl M. Kulp, president of the College Eisenhower for President Club, to state Eisenhower's views on certain current political issues.

In a letter to Kulp, they asked such questions as, "Is Eisenhower in favor of a compulsory FEPC?", "Would he support the candidacy of Senator McCarthy on the Republican ticket in Wisconsin?", and "Does Eisenhower favor the repeal of the McCarran Act?"

According to the letter, these questions were posed because "a great many students are interested in assessing the General's merits as a Presidential possibility, and we believe that political decisions, especially in the atmosphere of a University, should be governed by facts and not vague emotions. Such issues are so important that no man who is not willing to stand on them is qualified to be President," the letter added.

The Executive Board's decision to send the letter was unanimous.
