In commemoration of the late French actor Louis Jouvet, the Harvard Vocarium yesterday released a recording in French of Moliere's "School for Wives," played by Jouvet and the Compagnie Dramatique Francaise de Tournees.
Taken directly from a performance at the Colonial Theatre in Boston last March 16, the recording includes all five acts of the play with music and the audience's applause. This first edition, published on the anniversary of the Boston performance, contains 160 numbered copies, each on three 12-inch long-playing discs.
The records were made possible by the Belle Palmer Rand Fund, donated to the Harvard Vocarium by the French Talking Films Committee in honor of Mrs. Edward K. Rand.
A public audition of the recording, along with color slides of the stage designs, will be held at the Brattle Theatre at 8:30 p.m. tonight.
