Grade-comparing among the brighter first-year Business School men is being officially discouraged, grades released by Registrar Helen Eastman indicated yesterday when marks came out in only three categories instead of the usual five. Low Pass and Unsatisfactory were the same, but Distinction, High Pass, and Pass have been combined into Satisfactory.

The Class of 1953 faired worse academically than its predecessors. Only 71 percent received Satisfactory as against 74.7 percent the year before, while five percent of '53 received Unsatisfactory compared to 3.7 percent last year. On Low Passes this January's grades were better--24 percent against 21.6 percent. Seventeen men--three without petition--were dropped during the term.

The breakdown of the second-year men's grades was announced last week. The Class of '52 bettered their June grades and surpassed the class of 1951. All five categories were used in its case.
