Harvard and Yale will hold an exhibition crew race in August on Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, Athletic Director Tom Bolles told the varsity oarsmen at their first pre-season meeting last night. Bolles, former crew coach, said that the race would be in honor of the anniversary of America's oldest intercollegiate sports encounter.
Bolles, who will be manager of this year's Olympic rowing team, said that he naturally would enjoy having the Harvard crew go with him to the Olympic games.
Regular rowing will begin tomorrow in the tank at Newell Boathouse. Harvey Love, starting his first year as varsity crew coach, announced. Up to now rowing has been unorganized and purely voluntary. Love said that outdoor work would begin sometime between February 22 and March 1. depending on weather conditions.
Captain Lou McCagg. All-American stroke, stressed the fact that this is an Olympic year and that the crew has high hopes of going to Helsinki, Finland, for the games.
The oarsmen saw movies of freshmen crews for the past three years so that varsity members could note their improvement.
