Firemen Quickly Douse Fires In Sever and Claverly Halls

An epidemic of small fires singed two University buildings yesterday as flames burst out in Claverly and Sever Halls within ten minutes of each other.

An incinerator flamed in Claverly at 4:55 p.m., and only seven minutes later, the fire department received a call from Sever. The smell of smoke drove freshmen taking aptitude tests on the top floor to a lower level.

The freshmen were in the process of evacuating the building when word came that the fire was out. The fire department later explained that the ventilating system had carried smoke all over the building.
