Track Team Crushes Brown As Berman, Twitchell Shine

The varsity track team did exactly what it was supposed to and a little more against Brown on Saturday, easily defeating the Bruins 70 to 39, Similarly, Brown's great distance man Walt Molineux lived up to expectations, winning both the two mile and the mile. The Yardlings crushed the Bruin freshmen, 83 to 26. Last week, Yale beat Brown 69 to 30.

Bob Twitchell and Ronnie Berman were the big point-getters for the Crimson. Twitchell won the 40-yard high hurdles in 5.5, and then copped the 40-yard dash in 4.9. Berman came from behind to take the 600 in 1:15.4. his fastest time of the year, with teammate Ed Gretzner third. Berman, touched off forty yards behind in the anchor leg of the mile relay, made it up easily, waved to the crowd, and thumbed his nose at Gretzner as he passed the Brown man to win.

In the mile, Molineux turned on a powerful sprint to transform a close race into a romp, beating Dave Cairns by fifty yards in 4.27.5. He had even lead trouble in the two mile, completely running away from Dave Gregory and Emil San Soucie.

Bill Weber, competing after only two days of practice, took second in the hurdles behind Twitchell, with Ty Smith completing the Crimson sweep in third.

Bob Ray won the shot put, Bill Geick took the broad jump, Dick Barwise tied for first in the high jump and Bob Mello cleared 13 feet to win the pole vault.

Bob Rittenburg won three events and Dave Ingle two for the freshmen as the Yardlings won their third straight meet.

Rittenburg won the hurdles by a big margin with a time of 5.6. He cleared 5:10 in the high jump and leaped 22 feet 4.5 inches to win the broad jump, lagie took the mile in 4:24.4. and then came back to win the 1000 in 2:28.4. He also anchered the victorious 20-lap relay team.
