BROWNS TAKE OVER FIRST PLACE
The Cleveland Browns broke a three-way toe for first place in the American Conference of the National Football League by crushing the Washington Red-skins, 48 to 24.
New York and Philadelphia both absorbed upset defeats: the Giants were trampled 63 to 7 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the Eagles lost to the Chicago Cardinals, 28 to 22.
In the National Division, the defending champions, the Los Angeles Rams, turned back the San Francisco 49'ers, 34 to 21, to go into a first place tie with the Detroit Lions who beat Green Bay Thursday.
