Four varsity crews are working out on the Charles this week in preparation for Tuesday's fall windup race, an annual event which marks the end of the fall crew season for the men in the varsity heavies.
Today's practice is the third since the crews have rowed together. Four strokes, Tom Adams, Larry Brownell, Lennie Wheeler, and Kem Whiting picked their crews Tuesday under a rotation system in order to achieve a balance between the boats.
Coach Harvey Love said last night "there have been no picked crews" on the river this fall, and he will not pick tentative varsity and Jayvee boats until the spring season gets underway.

The freshman crews will stay on the river for an indefinite period of time after the varsity retires, Love said. The light-weight crews, coached by Ted Reynolds this fall, put away the shells last week.
With the exception of Lee Rouner, who has been on the sick list, all the New London survivors have been rowing in the varsity crews. They are Johnny Atherton, Phil DuBois, Bill Geertsema, and Dick Higgins.
After Tuesday's race, the varsity is scheduled to move from the river to the tank in Newell Boat House.
