Yardlings Scrimmage Eleven In Princeton Game Warmup

John Jordan, son of varsity coach Lloyd Jordan, did most of the passing yesterday as the varsity football squads went through a wet but light pre-Princeton scrimmage with both the freshman offense and defense.

John, currently an assistant freshman coach, quarterbacked his father's last Amherst team three years ago. Playing with the freshmen, he passed as the defense spent the afternoon trying to diagnose Princeton passing and running plays.

Because the freshmen use a "T," and the junior varsity works from a single-wing, the varsity will scrimmage against the Jayvees all week, as it prepares for its first single-wing team of the season.

Fullback John Culver was a little banged up, and didn't go through the scrimmage. Jerry Blits and sophomore George MacDonald alternated in his place.

Blits was outstanding at fullback during the scrimmage, showing why his personal rushing average is so high.

Sophomore Jerry Marsh played at left linebacker, for Bob Hardy. Hardy hurt his ankle against Davidson Saturday, but should play against Princeton. And Bill Weber, who played a fine game at defensive end against the Wildcats, played left and yesterday in place of Frank Yoffe, who hurt his hand.
