'53 Calendar has Expanded Winter Time for Reading

Fall reading period will swell to normal size in 1953-54, according to the long-range schedule released yesterday by Registrar Sargent Kennedy '28. This change, plus six fewer days of classes than this year, will make 1953-54 one of the most ideal calendar years in recent times.

The academic year begins September 28, in contrast with 1952's September 22 deadline. Christmas vacation, however, will start only one day later, lasting the uniform 14 days. Commencement for the Class of '54 will be on Wednesday, June 17.

Fall reading periods will be cyclically shortened, according to Kennedy's ten-year calendar. During the next two years students will be able to cram for 16 days, but in 1956 the period is cut to 13 days, and for the following three years back to nine.

Future Schedules

1954-55's schedule extends the lesser number of days for another year, but in the following year three more days will be added, and in 1956-57 this year's high will again be reached.
