Shepard Sees Improved Varsity Quintet; Large Hockey Squad Trains for B.U. Tilt

Greeted by what he termed "a large turnout," varsity hockey coach Cooney Weiland yesterday watched his squad go through the first workout of the year. The Crimson sextet will open against B.U. in the Arena on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Led by Captain Walt Greeley, Weiland will have a good first line returning to the ice as soon as Dick Clasby is able to play. Amory Hubbard, high scorer last year with 17 goals and 11 assists, will be back at left wing.

Three juniors, Norm Wood, Jeb Bray, and Jim Colt add depth to Weiland's offense. All three men developed well last year, with Wood scoring 10 goals.

Sophomore defensemen Ed MrKonich and Jim Moynahan will compete with Tony Patton and Jim O'Brien for defense positions. Other sophomores who are slated to see action are goalie Carl Hathaway, Ned Bliss, Jeff Cooledge, Doug Manchester, and Frank Mahoney.

Following the game with Boston University, the Crimson faces 14 other teams, and in addition a two-day Christmas holiday tourney with Boston College, Northeastern, and Boston University. The sextet will play its tournament games in the Arena.
