Convict debaters at the Norfolk State Prison Colony, long the scourge of New England orensic circles, finally dropped a close decision to Harvard last night at Norfolk.
The Crimson triumph broke a streak of 11 consecutive wins by the Norfolk inmates, which included victories over many big New England colleges and a team from Oxford University. Harvard had lost three consecutive times to the convicts before last night.
Jay Nussbaum '52, president of the Debate Council, and a three time loser against Norfolk, was joined in last night's victory by Frank Olson '53. They debated the affirmative of the motion "Resolved: That the 22nd Amendment should be repealed."
Norfolk was represented by Frank Keaney and George Johnson.
On December 14 the convicts will debate two Harvard graduate students.
