Erskine Caldwell, Ludwig Lewisohn, and Thomas Dunn will debate the pros and cons of "The Naturalistic Novel" at 8 p.m. tonight at the Law School Forum in the New Lecture Hall.
Mickey Spillane was scheduled for the program, but yesterday cancelled the engagement. Dunn, head of the English Department at Drake University, will take his place.
Caldwell will take the affirmative, in favor of the naturalistic novel. His own novels, including "God's Little Acre" and "Tobacco Road," are naturalistic. Author and critic Lewisohn will talk against naturalism. A professor at Brandeis University, Lewisohn specializes in German Language and Literature. His books include "Goethe: the Story of a Man," and "Breathe Upon These."
